SHAZAM Notice to Customers

SHAZAM wants cardholders to be aware of a phishing attack where the e-mail messages appear to be from "Shazam Inc. Bank." SHAZAM nevers asks cardholders for personal identity data or financial account information via e-mail.

The following text is an example of the fraudulent e-mail message directed at "Shazam Inc. Bank" cardholders:

Dear <cardholder name>,

For the safety and integrity of the Shazam Inc. Online Banking Community we have issued this warning message. It has come to our attention that your account information needs to be updated due to inactive accounts, frauds and spoof reports. Failure to update your records will result in account suspension. This notification expires on 30 September 2005. Once you have updated your account records your Shazam Bank account will not be interrupted and will continue as normal. Please follow the link below and renew your account information.

SHAZAM INC. ONLINE ACCESS

A phishing attack occurs when fraudulent individuals send e-mail messages to cardholders asking them to respond with personal identity data and financial account information. They ask the cardholder to respond by clicking on a link in the e-mail and providing personal identity information such as, Social Security number, address, phone, e-mail information, or mother's maiden name. Phishers may also ask for financial account credentials such as: PIN, account numbers, or anything to validate the card information.
